Iranian Lawmaker Hints At A Nuclear Test

Iranian lawmaker Javad Karimi Ghoddusi says there is only "a one-week gap from the issuance of the order to the first test" of a nuclear bomb, despite previous assertions of peaceful intentions.

His Monday statement on X came amidst escalating tensions with Israel and just hours after the Iranian foreign ministry reiterated that nuclear weapons have no place in Iran's military doctrine.

Ghoddusi, who is known for his hardline stance in domestic and foreign policy, also made provocative comments prior to Iran's missile and drone attack against Israel, warning that attempts to assassinate 'Resistance Front' personalities worldwide would be met with retaliation with Iranian missiles.

During a press briefing in Tehran, ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani emphasized, "Nuclear weapons have no place in our nuclear doctrine."

The mention of a doctrine has often been made in reference to what’s known as the Supreme Leader’s so-called “nuclear fatwa” – an alleged Islamic ruling issued by Khamenei banning the development of nuclear weapons.

However, experts challenge the authenticity and the binding nature of the fatwa, suggesting it has been used strategically to deflect international scrutiny over Iran's nuclear ambitions.

Moreover, Islamic Revolutionary Guard general Ahmad Haghtalab recently hinted that threats from Israel could force Iran to "review its nuclear doctrine and deviate from its previous considerations." The admission suggests potential shifts in Iran’s nuclear strategy in response to external military pressures.

While the foreign ministry maintains a façade of peaceful intentions, nuclear experts are skeptical, pointing out that Iran's uranium enrichment to 60-percent purity since 2021 suggests a direction towards weaponization.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has threatened Israel with annihilation if it attempts to attack Iran again.

Raisi arrived in Pakistan on Monday for a three-day visit. He addressed the recent tensions between Tehran and West Jerusalem at an event in Punjab on Tuesday.

“If the Zionist regime once again makes a mistake and attacks the sacred land of Iran, the situation will be different, and it is not clear whether anything will remain of this regime,” the state news agency IRNA quoted Raisi as saying.

Israel never officially acknowledged an April 1 airstrike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria that killed seven senior officers of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Quds Force. Tehran nevertheless retaliated on April 13, firing scores of drones and missiles at several targets in Israel.

Iran has shrugged off a series of reported explosions near the city of Isfahan last Friday, which were rumored to be a response from Israel. West Jerusalem did not acknowledge the reported attack, while criticizing a cabinet minister who spoke about it out of turn. Tehran chose to ignore it rather than deliver the promised swift and severe reprisal.

The Islamic Republic has vowed on multiple occasions to wipe out, destroy or annihilate the “Zionist regime,” as it calls Israel.

And then we have this happening at Columbia Universities:

Parents of Columbia students are being encouraged to demand refunds after the college cancelled all in-person classes as it struggles to get a grip on pro-Palestine protests. Embattled president Minouche Shafik announced that remote learning will remain in place for the college's 37,000 students until the end of the Spring semester amid the ongoing tensions.

Turmoil at the university ramped up on Monday during the major Jewish holiday of Passover, when protesters camped out for the seventh day in an attempt to urge the school to divest from companies with financial ties to Israel. 'Safety is our highest priority as we strive to support our students' learning and all the required academic operations,' said the Ivy League school, which charged $66,139 for full tuition during the 2022-23 academic year. The arrangement is set to last until at least April 29 the last day of classes, with teachers encouraged to, 'provide other accommodations liberally to students who have requested support for virtual learning this week'. The policy is in place across all of Columbia's four campuses and comes at a crucial time when many students are cramming for finals.

kent state 2.0

Columbia's embattled president Minouche Shafik has crumbled under pressure from pro Palestine protesters and given them a 48 hour extension to disperse after they ignored the original deadline.

It comes as demonstrators claim school officials threatened to call in the National Guard to the campus, which has been besieged by demonstrations since last Wednesday.

In the wake of the alleged threat, one activist called on members of the protest group to 'break up into platoons' in order to defend the encampment.

Robert Kraft Pulls Money From Columbia University

New York City’s Ivy League institution, Columbia University, has been hit with a major blow in the wake of ongoing pro-Palestinian protests on campus.

In a shocking move, New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft has pulled his support for the university, citing concerns over the treatment of Jewish students and faculty during the protests.

USC announced Thursday that it is canceling its main May commencement ceremony, capping a dramatic series of moves that began last week after it informed valedictorian Asna Tabassum, who had been opposed by pro-Israel groups, that she would not be delivering the traditional speech.

In ending the university-wide May 10 graduation ceremony altogether, USC aimed to quell the controversy that grew as it dismantled aspects of the ceremony, drawing criticism from both pro-Palestinian and pro-Israel activists nationwide.

Re: Iranian Lawmaker Hints At A Nuclear Test

"Something odd about those campus tent encampments. Almost all the tents are identical - same design, same size, same fresh-out-of-the-box appearance.

Which suggests that rather than an organic process, whereby students would bring a variety of individual tents, someone or some organization has supplied them and organized the event.

I think it would be instructive if we can determine who that someone is.
Because rather than spontaneous demonstrations, these are choreographed events by hidden actors - and the students, sincere though they may be, are merely manipulated props." ~ Tom Scharre
